Update 2013

Summary of the report presented at the October Omokoroa Environmental Managers inc - AGM 2013

FRIENDS OF THE CRAPP RESERVE

  • Last year the Gellibrand carving was dedicated with this year involving mainly ongoing maintenance.
  • Weeded and tidied 3 year old plantings of Coprosma and Hebes.
  • Chainsaw and chipped large and small branches of established trees.
  • The Regional Council agreed to leave the metal path created for rock wall work, thus allowing walkers easier access to walk around the point near the slip.
  • 2 large Eucalyptus logs remaining after the Gellibrand carving have been removed for milling and when dry, will be crafted into seats by Glen Whittaker and Murray Crapp.
  • Council has agreed to continue the metal path near the Pa site and link up the path from the steps near the old boat slip to Omokoroa Domain.
  • Concerns that older trees are deteriorating and may need replacements but advice from an arborist will be first sought. Offers to purchase trees have come from the History Group and the Crapp Family.

Once again I wish to thank the volunteers that have assisted at working bees and Western Bay District Council who support us to improve the reserve and creating a valuable asset for locals and visitors.

Thank you.

Don Cameron
